Community Federal Credit Union Helps Sept. 11 Relief Efforts

Plymouth, MI (Nov. 6, 2001) Following the Sept. 11 tragedy, Community Federal Credit Union provided account and wire services to the Plymouth Community Firefighters who raised $45,000 for families of fire fighters who lost their lives in New York. The credit union contributed nearly $500 and placed a fireman’s boot in its Plymouth branch to collect donations.

Community Federal is now providing children in the communities it serves with pre-printed envelopes to send donations to President Bush’s Afghanistan Youth Relief Fund. Credit Union President Roger Ballard says, "We feel this is a simple way to support a worthwhile effort and encourage our young members to get involved. These envelopes are available at our branches and at the eight schools in which we have school credit unions."

In another effort, credit union staff wore jeans to contribute nearly $800 toward the Make A Difference Day Scholarship Fund established for families of the tragedy. The credit union matched these donations for a total contribution of $1,600.

Ballard added, "All of these efforts help to serve as a demonstration of the credit union philosophy and the spirit of our great nation."

With more than 33,000 members and total assets exceeding $245 million, Community Federal Credit Union is headquartered in Plymouth, Michigan. Its membership is open to anyone who lives or works in the communities of Plymouth, Canton, Northville and Novi, and in Otsego and Montmorency counties.

This year also marks Community Federal Credit Union’s 50th anniversary celebration. For more information, visit the credit union web site at or call (734) 453-1200 or (877)
